Celebrate Memorial Day in Seattle With Music

The Pacific Northwest definitely offers up some amazing live music all year round, but Memorial Day in Seattle brings music fans some extra special shows. And, of course, we at Eleanor have the 411 on which are the best since our Green Lake apartments are in an optimal location for getting around the Emerald City. So, if you’re looking to immerse yourself in some great music and good times, you should check out these five events:

1. Couth Buzzard Jazz Festival

This is not just a cool way to celebrate Memorial Day in Seattle; it’s also a great opportunity for you to show support for the Greenwood community. Couth Buzzard Jazz Festival began last year after a gas explosion and fire destroyed several local businesses. The mission of the event is to help restore and revitalize the neighborhood by showcasing several incredibly talented local jazz acts. From May 27 – 30, the Festival will take place at Couth Buzzard Books, which is just a couple of miles from Eleanor’s apartments near Greenlake.

2. Northwest Folklife

If you’ve lived in Seattle for any period of time, you’ve probably heard about Northwest Folklife since it’s one of the city’s larger music festivals. When it’s Memorial Day in Seattle, hundreds of thousands of people make their way to the Seattle Center to be entertained by dozens upon dozens of artists performing music, dance, spoken word, poetry, and presentations and panels. There’s pretty much something for everyone. This massive celebration of arts and culture occurs from May 26 – 29 and it’s completely free to the public.

3. Summer Concerts at the Locks

From May 28 to September 16, the Ballard Locks become more than a tourist hotspot where millions of visitors come to admire an intricate water maintenance system and spawning salmon. Memorial Day in Seattle marks the beginning of a free concert series hosted by the Locks on most Saturdays and Sundays. Seattleites are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to stake out a prime spot in the lawn area where the afternoon concerts are held.

4. Latona Pub’s Weekly Happy Hour

We know what you’re probably thinking. Why is a happy hour on a list of premier music events? Well, it just so happens that Latona Pub features jazz sets every Friday in May from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. While you’re munching and sipping on cheap eats and drinks, you can enjoy music from one of the best jazz musicians in Seattle – a nice, low key opportunity to enjoy some great music on memorial day weekend, if the big music festival isn’t exactly your bag.

5. Sasquatch! Music Festival

Speaking of big Music festivals, Memorial Day in Seattle brings in some of the biggest music acts in the world. Sasquatch! is a 3-day music festival beginning on May 26 at the Gorge Amphitheatre. On average, over 20,000 music fans make the trek to a rural area in George, WA to set up camp and catch performances of their favorite artists and bands. It’s a little ways away from Seattle, but it attracts some of the most die-hard music fans from all over the PNW. If you’re looking for a surefire way to kick your memorial day weekend up a notch, make sure to make it out to the Gorge.

Seattle is and always has always had a fantastic music scene. This kind of ingenuity inspires us to be innovative as well. We do more than put a roof over our residents’ heads – we actually promote a connection to a community. Beyond having apartments near Greenlake, which is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the city, we include amenities to satisfy all of our tenants’ needs and wants.

A community lounge and rooftop deck create comfortable spaces for working, relaxing, or visiting with friends and neighbors. Our fitness center is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery. Nature enthusiasts store their equipment in our bike and outdoor gear room. And, pooches love getting pampered in our dog salon. At Eleanor Apartments, we pretty much think of everything.

Does this sound like your kind of community? Check out our Green Lake apartments!
